Founded in 1946 by Bill Galt and Wilson McNeely, Jr., Valley Blox first entered the concrete pipe and precast concrete manhole business when they acquired Ace Block and Supply Company in Harrisonburg in 1959.
The Ace acquisition became Valley Blox’s Precast Division and it is believed that they produced one of the first precast concrete sanitary manholes east of the Mississippi River.
In 1985, the Company purchased another precast manufacturing company in Halltown, West Virginia, near Harpers Ferry. This facility became the Concrete Products of America Division of Valley Blox, Inc.
The two precast divisions operated under separate names and philosophies until 1989 when the Company placed a new emphasis on quality and customer service and began operating as Americast.
1997 was the year that the Company bought CSR HydroConduit Corporation’s precast manufacturing facility in Ashland, Virginia, just north of Richmond.
Americast began 2001 by adding reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) to its product offerings through the acquisition of three concrete pipe manufacturing facilities from Tarmac America. Plants in Charleston, South Carolina, and Chesapeake and Richmond, Virginia provide Americast customers with complimentary product offerings and consolidated sales and delivery structures.
