Cradle-to-Cradle (C2C) certification focuses on the characteristics of sustainable materials, products and the system in which they are part.  The process places emphasis on the human and ecological health impacts of a product’s component ingredients, as well as the ability of that product to be truly recycled or safely composted.

The certification process evaluates a product on several criteria:

• use of environmentally safe and healthy materials
  
• design toward reutilization of materials (recycling, composting, etc.)
  
• use of renewable energy; most efficient use of energy
  
• efficient utilization of water; maximum water quality in production operations
  
• strategies that are consistent with and supportive of social responsibility
